Josh HommeBack in love: Josh HommeBy Martin Kielty
Josh Homme is in the early stages of working on a new Queens of the Stone Age album, he’s confirmed.
Rumours have been rife that the project was underway for some time, but Homme has finally confirmed them while explaining it will be a long process.
He tells Radio 1: “I’ve been reconnecting with playing for playing’s sake and falling back in love with the music. It’s been so long since I was able to play without any sort of pressure.
“For me it’s all about the love. I need to be in love with the music. Sometimes you need to take time away to appreciate what it is.”
Homme says fans can expect to hear new material at some point this year, but underlines development will take time.
Guitarist Tory Van Leeuwen recently reported the small amount of music they’d already written was heavily influenced by traditional sources.
“We all love the blues and we all love to boogie,” he explained. “But there might be some new scenes. It’s really early in the process and it’s not too defined, but we’re all feeling really great. There’s no shortage of ideas.”
Queens of the Stone Age will tour New Zealand and Australie in February and March, where they’ll perform their self-titled first album in full.
